Digi recently launch their new digi broadband service at 19th March 2009 which using HSPA technology (High Speed Package Access)
Digi do have wireless broadband service year ago, the old digi broadband service with using EDGE technology (Enhance Data rate for GSM Evolution), this technology come before 3G service available at Malaysia. Since they are using EDGE technology for their 1st wireless digi broadband, the speed is slightly slower then 3G, and my boss are subscribe the service with a free laptop year ago, here my review on digi broadband on October 2007. The speed for the previous digi broadband using EDGE technology was just 224kbps only
I not really have the opportunities to tested on the performance for this new digi broadband plan, but pricing wise compare to Maxis broadband(RM68 per month) or Streamyx (RM60 per month) cheapest combo package that I current using, is much more cheaper. Also, previously I was maxis broadband narrowband user, and really fet up with their service.
What are the digi broadband plan available for us?
Digi do provide 3 broadband package for light user, intermediate customer and advance subscriber. The discover plan, priced at RM58 per month with a 3GB data usage (700kbps download speed and 200kbps upload speed) are suitable for light user, while intermediate customer can subscribe explorer plan which at RM108 per month for 10GB of data usage. (700kbps download speed and 200kbps upload speed)
For Advance user like me, who surf Internet more then 8 hours per days, 7 days a week 😀 shall subscribe extreme plan which priced at RM188 per month with 20GB data usage.(2Mbps download speed and 1Mbps upload speed)
How if additional use for the data usage?
Discover plan and explore plan subscriber who exceed their monthly limit will be charged 15sen for each 10Kb of data used, the maximum amount is capped at RM138 per month, but for extreme plan subscriber, there are no extra charge, but might get slower speed after that.
Advantage:
The best for this digi broadband plan is without need to paid any registration or upfront fees, unlike maxis, RM100 activation, Streamyx RM75 activation, and P1 RM160(RM100 registration, and RM60 Activation), any one who would like to have a trial, also won’t feel “heart pain” while switch to digi broadband, and may quit any time without loss the activation fees.
Disadvantage:
Modem fees require to bare your self, RM300 for discover plan and explore plan, while extreme plan is RM500, unlike Streamyx(RM60 include modem), maxis (RM68 include modem), and P1(RM49 include modem), modem are included in the monthly access fees, which are cheaper then digi broadband.(RM88 include modem)
Now, Digi give FREE Modems for explore and extreme plan, as well as a subsidized modem for discover plan (User only pays RM15 a month for 12 months). I believe much more promotion and offer will be giving out by Digi soon in the future.
Above are the digi broadband modem snap shoot grab from Goldfries.com which blog about digi blogger gathering at KL. I wonder when digi will organize blogger gathering at Penang. I will definitely join this gathering.
Digi broadband sound nice but Digi’s coverage is the lowest compared to celcom N maxis ..
So .. feel no confident to join them
i am interested on their new package for MSN online only….
will be waiting for more additional compatible phones …
Was thinking of trying DIGI broadband after finish my Maxis broadband 1 year contract (To save RM 200)
Somemore it haven’t covered my Puchong area for HSPDA speed yet. Only EDGE…
eldy >
Ya, you are correct, this is also the disadvantage for digi, but I believe soon, the coverage will coming. Also, (in my opinion) may be digi are foreign company, and their privilege to expand might be slower compare to local company
Tian Chad >
actually there are some tips/method to quit without getting penalties, email me if you want the method 😉
my self experience before 😀
It takes time to build up. My primraly concern is that are our IP addresses being shared. If , yes chances are it would make it pretty hard to use public services such as rapidshare and stuff and the IP may have been banned in certain places due to certain people misabusing it
…their coverage is low compare to Celcom or Maxis but the Discover plan is attractive to me.
Is digi using Hua Wei modem?
My place is behind Berjaya Times Square but no 3G coverage. Only EDGE 🙁
With only EDGE coverage, will I still enjoy 700kb/s download?
All plans have max capped limit. Scare of P2P users… 😛
i think this kind of internet package not suitable to those heavy downloader
The coverage is still low compare to maxis and celcom but the speed of the broadband is very fast. I have subscribe to it and you can check out the speed from my blog.
It is cheap enough, I think
DIGI unlimited really duckload. Almost 10G download digi say keep-on no extra charge. (Othe telco limited 3-5G per month)
2 bar in the junggle I still can surf net.
A bit expensive from what i see. Capping the line is a good idea. Most oversea countries like Australia uses this method but the prices is just too much…
Kudos to Digi though… Always the smarter choice! ^^
if DIGI widen their coverage, i go for it~~
i also heard DIGI is more stable. in the context of their speed.
btw, Calvyn, frankly speaking, your english grammar…need an improvement..seriously.
Yes la Calvyn.. Broadband is right about your grammar. You’ve got to do something about it. I’ve been assigned to do a short report on the new DiGi broadband for the magazine I work with & I really got “heart pain” trying to make out what you were trying to say. Aiyyo. Anyway, thank you & good luck.
Sam > Haha, please don’t mind I am from Chinese ed… english sure will be worst a bit… still keep my self improving
So you don’t mind being corrected huh?
…and really fet up with their service…
Supposed to be “fed up”. 😉
i been using digi broadband for few months… very happy with their coverage and also speed.. eventhough most area only got edge but way better than maxis and celcom 3g… i experience maxis n celcom speed can drop even below 100kb but digi edge still maintain at 200kb even in centre of town or remote area… those area got 3g coverage im getting speed above 1mb all the time so far… this is the best service i ever experience for mobile broadband… those looking for stability as mobile broadband i would really advice go for digi. for house only if your area got 3g signal
Dear Calvyn,
Heard that you know how to unsubscribe w/o any penalties..mind sharing to me?email?
hi Jeremy, if you want to know the trick, please email me, the trick is not convenience to share at public
i using digi now…im very happy with it.just pay rm100 for register but it will deduct for first bill.so first bill no need to pay and the balance will go to second bill.monthly rm58+rm15 for modem for 1 year…in kl i got 3.6mbs,seremban+melaka+kerteh got 284kbs but still faster and stabil than celcom
digi not slow to expend they coverage,in sabah, many place cover with DIGI 3G.
Wow… great review on Digi broadband. I’m currently using Streamyx combo 512 kbps. Should be called Shit-mix… Just called to complained to their “cust service”… not much help from them, only that they will send a tech over to check my line.
Now i’m definitely giving Digi a go. Good thing they offer coverage in my area, which is SS2 Pj. 😀 I’ve already heard a lot of bad feed backs about P1 Wimax, the supposedly next step of evolution in wireless broadband. My sis also had a bad experience with Maxis broadband, and I heard that her friend, who used Celcom broadband b4, can’t even log in to MSN! Glad I didn’t go for either 1 of them.
Btw just 2 clarify, does Digi offer a free trial period, just like what P1 is offering? I don’t mind paying the RM100 upfront if needed…
🙂 the few gb if browse through pc i think within 24hours the data finish.. Better go for unlimited.. 🙂
Tried it and tested it in many places, most of the time can’t connect or get disconnected constantly.
If you ask me honestly, i think if i have a telephone line. I would say Dial Up is winning Digi Internet “Broadband” hands down. (what? Dare they call it broadband?)
Sucks man, really sucks.
The only reason i think this package has interested most people is the price. Cheapest currently compare to other. But if it not usable and only getting headache, don;t think worth the time….
Sorry digi, like your ads campaign too but this is really unacceptable..
hi,calvyn. You shall change your word about how if additional use for the data usage for the three plan. You will still be able to access the Internet but your broadband connection will be throttled to a lower speed of 128kbps for “all 3 packages”.t is stated in the FAQs about digi broadband in digi website.
Hi, I’m staying at the Bandar Baru Air Itam area in Penang, anyone tested the Digi BB connection there? Is it good? It has been 1 year after its launch in Penang, what’s the feedback so far? Checking through the coverage map in the Digi website it seems it covers almost the whole of Penang Island, but yet I’m still doubtful. I need to use the BB connection between 2 locations in Air Itam, so I have to either get 2 wired BB connection or get 1 Digi wireless BB plan. Any advice?
Calvyn, have you started using Digi BB now that it has arrived in Penang??
I have use before near by farlim, Desa Permata area… speed is acceptable, but unable to download much file. Normal browsing is ok for me
since all the while I am using slowmyx 384kbps package, the DG BB is acceptable for my standard
Thanks for the info!!
i live at kg pasir putih tawau,i’ve used a celcom broad band which of no use to this area,so i swicth to dg via their package offer and received much better coverage broadband with my htc handphone.this area have primary and secondary school,so why not start to upgrade your service in order to give better coverage for broadband to this area and its neibouring area which etc:tmn univilla,tg.batu laut.tg batu keramat, tmn semarak,kg muhibbah raya(7 scnd schools)and tmn hot spring jaya & tmn daya usaha which is about 5 miles radius.
I found a free sms site to send SMS to all mobile in Malaysia. No charges at all. It is at http://www.mostsms.com. Tested with Digi, Maxis, Celcom and u-mobile. It really work.
Malaysia friend, join http://www.mostsms.com. why pay when free ah….
currently using Celcom BB advance
price – RM98/mth
Speed – slow la D/L speed only 160KBps(or 1280kbps.
Bandwidth limit – 5G – S**K not enough to download my fav anime. but u can by additional bandwidth
i’m thinking of switching to DiGi this month.
most broadband services are crappy, they can’t maintain high data transfer rates :”
I fucking hate DIgi Broadband
you guys!! please help me out here, I’m having an headache problem here!! I use DIGI internet, why the upload speed is very low?? It takes me forever to upload my pictures to some websites such as tumblr. I tried so many times, still..the picture kept loading..and loading..loading, WHY??? THE UPLOAD SPEED ARE SO CRAPPY??? Error 619,connection to the remote computorcouldnot be established,so the port used for this connection was closed.i face this problem can any one help in solving this problem.
Hi guys,
Do you face digi service problem lately since early of last month…
1) many times we lost its signal and no service either at home or at office. Today the whole morning happened to my wife’s phone and mine.
2) Calls didnt go through to your phone. We only noticed after receive the sms notification of missed call.
3) Do you ever call digicentre to get help. Have you experience and feel that it will wasting your time and credit ( I think so if use other ISP) as DIGI answering machine will put you on long talking and then cut the line after some time.
